Sophia Loren

Now if I looked like Sophia Loren at 76 – I would die without any regrets !  Look at her amazing beauty!  but it’s not only her amazingly looking body and face that we are talking about today – it’s her prestigious japanese award that we are looking at today.

Everyone knows who Sophia Loren is – I grew up watching her in movies – yes ! the black and white type.  And at 76 – Sophia Loren won and was honored at the 2010 Praemium Imperiale arts award in Japan.  Recognized for a lifetime achievement in areas of the arts not covered by the Nobel Prizes – this prices comes with a cash prize of about $169K.

The Italian-born actress, whose real name is Sofia Scicolone, starred in the 1957 film The Pride and the Passion with Cary Grant and won an Oscar for her role in the 1960 World War II film Two Women. She also appeared in El Cid in 1961, in Grumpier Old Men in 1995 and starred alongside Daniel Day-Lewis and Penélope Cruz in the 2009 musical film Nine.

Huguette Clark

I love running this blog – not only because I learned of many wonderful people – I also learned a lot about mysterious million heiress like Huguette Clark who is 104 yrs old  – I read.  According to the news – she is so private – she was never seen in public – or her staff – for more than a few times.  Even if she needed acne cream or facial cream – i bet she has a home remedy for acne so she don’t have to go out and get it.  This heiress is definitely different from others, for even though she is so rich – she is now in a low rent hospital room and claimed that her massive fortune is a hindrance to her happiness.

Wow! I really don’t know what to say about that to be honest.  Obviously, this woman is so rich and owns properties that are left empty and no one to inherit them.  Her relatives are kept away from her and only her accountant and lawyer visits her.

The daughter of a disgraced former U.S. senator, Huguette inherited millions from the Montana copper mines, and has lived a solitary life while her three fabulous homes sit empty: a $100 million estate on the Pacific Coast in Santa Barbara, a $24 million country house in Connecticut and a $100 million co-op, the largest apartment on Fifth Avenue overlooking Central Park — all immaculately kept but unoccupied for decades.

Amitabh Bachchan

Those from Asia and loves Bollywood movies and shows would recognized Amitabh Bachchan – because he is not only an actor but a producer of Bollywood movies.  He won many film awards and is now collaborating with a philantropy group, GiveIndia to conduct an online charity auction.  Bachchan is a leading philanthropist among the likes of Mukesh Ambani and Lakshmi Mittal.  The Joy of Giving Week, organized by GiveIndia last year raised 1.2 million rupees by auctioning an opportunity to participate in a cricket coaching camp with the sport’s leading run-scorer  Sachin Tendulkar.

Charity Begins @ Home

We talk a lot on this blog about people who inspires us – people who change the face of the earth and how big hearted some people are.  So when recently – there was a fund raising drive at a clinic near our home- a non- profitable one – for some  medical cart , we decided to help out.  It’s not easy to run a non-profitable clinic – because all the doctors involved are doing it voluntarily – not paid for their time.  So I feel strongly as a close community – to support this good cause – because doctors are hard to come by – and if there are some who are charitable – we should support any way we can.  What do you think?

Carmel Hutchinson

This beauty needs no wrinkle cream nor any beauty product to look as beautiful as she is but this beauty has a heart of gold.  Carmel Hutchinson is not all about good looks but has business acumen and is turning rags into money bags not for herself but for charity.   Wow! right?

Her parents wanted her to pursue a career in law, but Carmel knew she could turn her flair for fashion into charity alchemy.  After graduating from university last year,  she build a career in raising money for causes close to her heart – totally by chance,  Two years ago, a friend asked her to organize a fund raising night with a difference in aid of Charlie Bear for Cancer Care, at the Tup Tup Palace, in Newcastle.  Carmel never looked back and since then raised money for Action for Breast Cancer, Charlie Bear for Cancer Care and many more of the same  kind of good causes.

Fighting For Charmaine

Every year during Christmas – I try to run a donation drive to donate to a worthy cause and even though I’ve had Little Charmaine’s banner on my side bar for a long time now – I haven’t done a lot to promote this drive.  So this Christmas – I’m going to get my readers, friends and family to donate to help Little Charmaine with her medical cost.

You don’t need to be a philanthropist to help Charmaine – any amount to help her with her medical bills and living cost – would definitely be appreciated. Lil’ Charmaine was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. She was in the 4th stage and was fighting hard and still fighting.

There is an alternative form of treatment for neuroblastoma offered in the US which could double Charmaine’s chances of survival. The drug used in the treatment is known as 3F8, which is produced by the white blood cells of mice.  These antibodies are given intravenously to a patient and will circulate in the bloodstream till they attach to a neuroblastoma cell. The patient’s own immune system will then attack and kill the neuroblastoma cell.  This treatment has been used in more than 500 patients since 1987.

You can donate – using the banner on the sidebar – and read a bit more about Charmaine – her illness and her fight.  Or follow this link – http://ourfeistyprincess.blogspot.com/2009/06/on-cash-donation-and-pay-pal.html

Josephine Esther Mentzer

Do you recognized this lady?  I bet you don’t right?  well, she is no stranger to women all around the world – I for one love all her products.   Josephine Esther Mentzer is also known as Estee Lauder – now I’m sure you know who and what I’m talking about right?  A cosmetic magnate – whom all women loved for the  best acne products , cosmetic – skin care range and also perfumes.

Daughter of a Hungarian Jewish immigrants – who was interested in her uncle’s business – a chemist – and soon started her own business in cosmetic – and Estee Lauder – the company was born in 1935 – the year my mother was born.  The rest as they said is history as they said.  Estee Lauder was a very hardworking woman and never worked a day in her life without selling.  If she believed in something, she sold it and sold it hard.  Her  attitude and her gung ho believe is the success and respect that all women around the world including myself must take a page outta of.   Estee  died at 97 of age – but her  legacy and a brand name will always be there – and even  my great grandchildren will get to know as well.
