If you don’t know who Hadijatou Mani is .. then you must be from Mars .. hahah!!  But seriously, the American government considers Hadijatou Mani from Niger one of the most courageous women in the world. The former slave received the International Women of Courage Award from Hillary Clinton, in Washington DC in March.  No she doesn’t do any colon cleansing reviews but she won a much talked-about court case against the Niger government. With the support of Oxfam Novib’s partner Timidria she proved able to convince the judge that the state was not doing enough to protect her against slavery.

At the age of 12 Hadijatou was sold to a master with four wives. As ‘fifth wife’ she became their slave and had to do all their work. Hadijatou: “I, and several other girls, had no status whatsoever as fifth wife. We were not officially married, but we were forced to have sex with the master. His legal wives used us as their doormat.”

Hadijatou was set free in 2005, but when she married the man of her choice her master took her to court for committing bigamy. Because according to customary law a freed slave remains the wife and property of her former master. The court sentenced Hadijatou to six months in prison, of which she served two.

With the support of Oxfam Novib’s partner organisation Timidria Hadijatou took the case to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). She sued the state because it had not done enough to protect her against slavery.

The ECOWAS court ruled that Niger had to pay damages to Hadijatou of 15,000 euro. In doing this the court acknowledged that slavery existed in Niger, something which the authorities had always denied. Every member state of the Economic Union of West African States, Niger included, is now held to really enforcing the anti-slavery legislation. According to Timidria this ruling will benefit the more than 40,000 people in Niger still living in slavery.

Judy Pettersen never intended to be an inventor or an entrepreneur, yet the development of the Baby Trekker™ taught her how to be both. At her kitchen table, she learned how to sketch, measure and design the new style of baby carrier. Once the Baby Trekker™ was ready for sale, she put on the entrepreneur’s hat and gave demonstrations to friends and relatives, attended trade shows, and worked on business development.

It is moms like her.. that not only juggle work but home so well.. and still look so good just with  lip gloss, i know of another inspiration mom who uses ..Burt’s Bee because Burt’s Bees uses all natural ingredients in most of their products - now she inspires me so much.. and I wished i was only half as good as these inspirational moms.. so that my kid can grow up.. and look up to me.

Peter Tan is a 40 something Christian from Penang, Malaysia.. and is currently living in K.L.  When i first started reading Peter’s blog.. it was a few years ago.. and yes. .he inspired me immediately.  Why..??  Peter is movement challenged.. but he is so full of life.. and he is such an articulate writer with great insight .. and a strong passion to challenge a good cause for the rest of the movement challenged like himself in Malaysia. While I need  ultra 90 you can see that Peter stayed as healthy.. as he can.. and fit.. and also keep tab of his total health.

Happily married to a wonderful lady called Wuan.. Peter has a spinal cord injury .. and also chronic renal failure..  and uses the wheelchair.. and drives a car.  He is by no means a small voice because of his physical challenge or his bad health - you can see Peter is very active trying to make Malaysia a better place . .for folks like himself.  I am humbled by him.. and wished i was as strong as Peter is - i draw strength from his experiences. and his many challenges.  Thank you Peter..!

Former deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia.. Mr Ibrahim was made famous because he was accused of sodomizing his driver.  To me .. and in my humble opinion.. the prison term he served.. the humiliation .. that was thrown at him..and his family .. were uncalled and till today.. i don’t think.. anyone can justify it.  It was like George Bush having the power.. and invading Iraq on the pretext of mass destruction weapon.

Mr Ibrahim led a humble life .. he believed in spending wisely .. and treating everyone fairly.. you can’t even find anything unique like those Grohe faucet you find in celebs home.   Many ppl think that he was ousted out because he wanted to bring the West and Islam closer together.. and had many ideas .. of changes.. and believes in a more modernized.. and more open society.  Yes.. he does inspires not only myself.. but many.. for being so strong.. and even when he was thrown to jail. .he stood with his head held high up… not once did we see weakness in this great man.

I grew up watching Singapore’s very first bilingual TV host, Samuel Chong, has been a household name since the early 80s and very into gadgets like cell phones.  Having honed his hosting skills in both English and Mandarin, Samuel is a seasoned veteran with experience in hosting high-profile programmes such as the highly-acclaimed CCTV Lunar new year show in the 90s. His more recent work include engagements with China’s TV stations hosting live TV Shows; notably “Miss International Tourism 05/06″ in Hangzhou and “Miss Globe International 05/06″ in Shanghai.

I think at one time.. Samuel Chong was everyone’s perfect b/f and the boy to bring home to .. to show their mothers.  He is no stranger to the Singaporean .. and Malaysian fans..  but had kept a really low profile like all Singaporean celebs.  Unlike our Hollywood counterparts.. and Hong Kong stars.. you hardly hear or see any scandals.. surrounding him.

Singapore’s very own celebrity, Gurmit Singh is a beloved personality to people from all walks of life. His versatility and multi-faceted talents as a comedian, host, singer, actor makes him a hit with the audience wherever he goes.

Helming the award-winning sitcom PCK Pte Ltd as Phua Chu Kang, Gurmit has penetrated the public’s consciousness and created a MediaCorp icon recognised by all. His talents were vindicated when he and PCK Pte Ltd won numerous awards at the Asian Television Awards; and himself honoured as the reigning Comedy King after winning the coveted Best Comedy Actor for five years (1998-2001 & 2003).

As some people may know, Gurmit Singh, is actually an ex-NPCC member. He was also the Best Cadet Inspector from the batch of 29 May 1982 Cadet Inspectors’ Training Course.

Susur Lee is a celeb chef .. that I’ve met when he was stationed in Singapore.. at the newly renovated Club Chinos.  I met him briefly when he was working at the Ritz too.. but i don’t even think he knew i existed then.. hahahah!! not like he does now either.  But i wanted to see what the fuss was all about .. when they brought him in as some kinda consulting chef.. which was pretty new during those days.

He subsequently migrated to Canada.. and opened his own restaurant there.. and i had the pleasure of once again meeting him.  He was humble. .and non eccentric like some of the celeb chefs that i’ve met.. and was immensely pleased with the food .. he and his restaurant served us that night.  There was no  tv stands in his fine dining restaurant.. but we were entertained for sure.

Lee, whose inventive Asian fusion cooking has influenced the Toronto fine-dining scene for two decades, is opening a restaurant in September in a new luxury Manhattan hotel.  Not only is Susur Lee a great chef, he is an entrepreneur.. and a restaurantuer .. who has great insight.  I thinking closing the Toronto restaurant was a great move.. because of the recession.
