Ralph Wilson Jr

2Born in 1918,  Mr Wilson, born and raised in Ohio is known for being the biggest philanthropist in 2014.  Even after his death in 2014, Wilson has a foundation that continues to help others and different organization.

Most people would probably remember him as the owner of Buffalo Bills as he played a very important role in bringing the game on national TV ,  that amounted a lot of money as far as I know.  As a founding owner, he was also inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2009.

But let come back to how generous he is , being one of the top giver even after his death.  I read that the proceeds of the sale of his estate , that held the franchise was used as an endowment for the Ralph C. Wilson Foundation.  This foundation funds many charitable causes in Buffalo and Detroit areas.   These were all set in motion before his death, therefore, he was truly a great philanthropist and had other big causes in mind.

Tony Chi

tonyI only got to know about Tony Chi when he designed the Ritz Carlton in Singapore and that was about the time I left Singapore and migrated to Canada.  And if you’ve ever been to the Ritz in Singapore, you will know that Tony Chi is not an ordinary interior designer.  Hotels built by him are known as the Tony Chi’s hotel to folks who worked in the hotels before and the Ritz is not only beautiful but very classy.

Inspired by his work, I too stole his idea for some  sliding door for lofts  that we have in Canada , that we were renovating for rental.   This interior designer started designing restaurants and then moved to hotels  in Asia after the stock market crash.  And of course, Asia benefited from his expertise  In fact, Tony Chi started with small jobs like designing a restaurant in a hotel in Jakarta.  And even though he has been awarded into the Hall Of Fame Inductee for Interior Design, in 2009, he still kept his company small, with only 50 employees.  I am inspired by Tony Chi and even though the spouse’s business is doing well, I too am pleased to do it small like Tony Chi.

Casey Neistat

You don’t need to be super rich or someone who have done a lot of good to inspire others.  And why I feel that everyone will be inspired by Casey Neistat is because after watching his youtube videos for months, you cannot help but feel this very, very strong and positive vibe that anything is possible.  If it isn’t – look at Casey Neistat, only 34 yrs old, this guy definitely has done more things and accomplished more than most of us have in a lifetime.

This guy is a dare-devil and even though he is from a very normal family and didn’t finish his high school, a school drop out at 15, he definitely, definitely is an inspiration to everyone out there as someone who is motivated and hard work and willing to try anything, you will get somewhere.

I love this guy and I highly recommend everyone to watch his youtube channel – oh did I forget to tell you that he is also a film maker, an entrepreneur and co-founder of a social media company that introduced an app called Beme.

01Dutch born DJ named by Forbes as the most paid DJs in the entire world making up to $22 million !  And I’m sure a lot of young men and women are inspired by it and wants to get all the  dj equipment speakers  that he is using and learn all the trades that he might have.

Born in Netherland in 1969, Tiesto founded the label Black Hole Recordings, voted world’s #1 DJ , he is well known for the remixed of John Legend song – All of me at the Grammy’s.  I don’t think he is ever married but there was an engagement that was broken.

Jorge Ramos

buddyTimes named Jorge Ramos as one of the 100 most influential people around the world.  Well known for speaking up and for the immigrants , you can count on Jorge Ramos to right the wrong.  Born in Mexico but is an American now , Jorge Ramos is a journalist and author.

One very notable interview he had was with President Obama about immigration.  He confronted him on his broken promises and in the meantime, letting him know because of him, many latino families were put out and broken.

Telling the President that a promise is a promise and that he broke his promise was definitely a very brave thing to do ?  But Jorge Ramos claims that he is not afraid to confront and find out the truth for the people.  My Hero !

Kanye West

A man / a famous man who doesn’t care about his legacy nor is he in competition with anyone, so he said , during a recent interview.  Kanye does create quite a stir each time he opens his mouth or goes on the internet, he admitted himself.  But he wished that people would not care about race, religion or color but instead remove their pride and make the world a better one.  He doesn’t believed in glorifying himself but is more interested in doing good to others or for others.

George Harrison

catsWhen I saw this  Tribute on sale  it reminded me of George Harrison and why my son started playing the guitar.  Yes, he was inspired after seeing George Harrison’s concert in a DVD that he had gotten from a friend for his birthday.  Funny how we get inspired so easily by different people in our lives and want to be like them.  But that was exactly what happened to my kid and from that day on, he was either playing his guitars or buying them or collecting different kind of instruments.

George Harrison may have passed away since 2001 but his legacy still lives on for many generations to come.   Not only was he a musician but also a singer, song writer and a producer for many film before he died.  Best known for his role played as a band member with the Beatles, “Here comes the Sun” that was composed by Harrison is still played a lot today and hummed by many around the world.

Aligi Voltan

We watched Aligi Voltan played in a concert in Italy many years ago and our kids were interested in learning all about  oboes & basoons   after being so inspired by Aligi Voltan.   He was playing the Mozart :  Bassoon Concerto in B-flat major.   My kids were definitely in awe after the concert because he played the bassoon so well.  Actually, it was our first time being introduced to the bassoon and now whenever we go to the symphony, we look out for people who plays the bassoon.

Tracy Chapman

Born in 1964, I truly admire Tracy Chapman because she came from humble beginnings and was busking with her guitar when she was a student in Tuft University.  She didn’t have any expensive equipments like the  jbl eon 210p  or an expensive guitar but that didn’t stop her from singing and playing on the streets and in coffee shops before she cut a record and became famous.

She started playign the ukelele at 3 and writing songs and playing the guitar at 8 yrs old.  Kudos to her mom who raised her on her own and even without a lot of money, she recognized her daughter’s talent when she was very young and did her best to nurture her.  Even after cutting her record, she didn’t gain instant fame, Tracy had to work really hard to build a fan base but after her she performed for Mandela for his 70th birthday tribute, then she became more commercially successful.

Also well known for being one of the most politically and socially active musician and tries to work with a lot of charitable organization to help them.  You can see her involvement thru’ her lyrics and during her many performances to create awareness about Human Rights and various charities like the South Africa’s Anti-Apartheid Movement.  There are so many more events that is associated to Tracy Chapman’s name that she is also known as an activist .  Tracy has won many Grammy awards and nominated for a lot more.

Cate Nimanya

Cate Nimanya is the Country Director for Water for People in Uganda, born in Uganda and raised there, she was very fortunate that her parents made sure that she gets an education.  Life must have been really hard for Cate and her friends, firstly being a girl in Uganda and secondly the condition for living must not be the best.  I read that Cate had to wake up as early as 5am to collect water first before walking to school at 7am. And in order not to get their uniform dirty, they had to take them out 50 meters away from school because of the filthy toilets.

Life didn’t get any easier for Cate but she did manage to finish university and further her studies in Netherland after which she got married and had a child.  She could have stop and just stayed home but Cate chose to work in the mission to bring clean water to the people of Uganda and even though she has 3 children and a career, Cate is up for any challenges.
