Harold Hamm

Harold Hamm came from humble beginnings and with only a high school diploma, you must be wondering how he became one of the most successful and richest man in USA.  His net worth is $18.7 billion and is the 76th richest man in the world.  I’m sure you and I would like to know how he did it.  Currently 68 years old Mr Hamm is a entrepreneur and best known for his involvement in oil and gas.

Coming from a huge family, his parents were cotton share croppers and only a high school diploma, Mr Hamm worked his way up from pumping gas and car repairs to owning his billion dollar company.  Very impressive right?  how many of us can come from nothing and becoming one of the richest man in the world.  No easy feat and whatever he had been doing or is still doing , I would want to know the secret too. Mr Hamm is also a huge contributor of a diabetic center in Oklahoma as he himself has Type 2 diabetes.  His company is also a major oil distributor/producer.

Tom & Judy Love

Tom & Judy Love from Oklahoma have one of the most interesting stories to tell about their success.   The Love networth at $3.9 billion and with so many gas station around United States, I bet they have a very good   car insurance agent  since they needed to travel a lot for their 300 locations in 39 States.

Thanks to the Love, you now have mini convenient stores around the world when you pull over for a gas stop.  Children and adults can get a quick bathroom break and get a snack, pop or coffee before heading off the road again.  Being a family owned business, the Love started with only $5000 by leasing a abandoned service station.  Isn’t that an amazing story?

Jack Heuer

The last name Heuer already gives itself away and I’m sure you could have guessed who he is already.  Jack Heuer is the honorary chairman of Tag Heuer, the well known Swiss watch brand around the world.  he is also the great grandson of the founder of Tag Heuer.  Everyone knows that Jack inherited the business but that doesn’t mean that he didn’t contribute to the success of Tag Heuer.

With an electrical engineering degree, he brought the company into greater heights of success, he also change the view of  marketing within the company by marketing the brand widely in  the USA.  Although he had left the company in 1982 due to restructuring of the firm, he remained as a consultant and an advisory member  with Tag Heuer.

Dai ZhiKang

Only 49 years old but already super rich and super smart and a net worth of $1.2 billion.  Dai Zhi Kang isn’t just your ordinary rich man, he is what they called, a modern and sophisticated business man who believe in repaying his debts.  Coming from a humble background, Dai was said look after pigs and cows during his younger days.

Dai earned his place in the university and his family encouraged him to pursue his dream and so finance he went into when he was in the university. After school, he paid the extended family for their support in his university and went into the government service but very quickly went into banking instead.

He then went into the property market but things didn’t go well as his business failed but that didn’t stop him from trying again and repaying all his creditors.  He became a little more shrewd in his business dealings and the rest is history as you all know.  And he is an avid collector of the modern chinese art.  I would love to see his collection if I can get a chance.

Peter Morton

After spending a night out with some friends, the nephew came home wanting a  musical instrument   for Christmas  which got me thinking of Peter Morton the co-founder of Hard Rock Cafe.  Rumor has it that he is dating Demi Moore right now but that wasn’t what intrigue me, what intrigue me most was how Peter Morton started with only one theme restaurant in London now has a Hard Rock Cafe in every country and every city.  And even though he sold his last Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas for $770 million in 2006, he retained the rights to the many Hard Rock Cafe Hotels in many countries.

But Morton is the son of Arnie Morton, the founder of Morton Steakhouse chain and perhaps he had gotten his business acumen from his parents from a young age but this restaurant mogul is not publicly shy to say the least, in fact he had been linked to many movie stars before Demi Moore.

Tadamitsu Matsui

Some may not know who he is but you definitely have heard of the lifestyle brand Muji.  Mr Matsui is the chairman for the Muji brand, who is well known for qualtiy product and simple but yet function-able designs.  Mr Matsui was the one who made the Muji brand profitable again when he took over as chairman in 2001.

At 64 years old, Matsui is still active in traveling for business and has opened its 7th store in Singapore.  Turning around a deficit of 3.8 billion yen to a profit of 162 billion yen in just 5 years is just incredible.  Matsui believed in communication, thus Mujigram was born, for all level of staff to communicate with him and the entire Muji staff.

The funny part of Matsui story is, he graduated as a student with Physical Education as his main stream, so how did this PE graduate become a successful businessman?  does that mean that anything is possible, if you want it so bad?

Roy O. Disney

I’m sure we all know who Roy O. Disney was – the name Disney do not escape anyone I’m can assure you. Roy Disney is the co-founder of Disney, so how can anyone not know him right?  of course, now that Disney is owned by shareholders, it still doesn’t mean that we would forget who Roy Disney is.

Roy was in the military before becoming a banker and had tuberculosis – born in Chicago.  In 1923, he went to Hollywood and joined his brother Walt and they both founded Disney Studios.  While his brother was the creative aspect of Disney, Roy made sure that the company was financially stable.  He was only married once  and till death till he parted – and being so camera shy and private, little was published during his lifetime about him.  Because of his contribution to not only USA but around the world, a statue of Roy had been placed next to Minnie mouse located on the town square.  Disney also tries to remember Roy for his contribution by putting up his statue in various Disney properties.

Multi-Millionaires Sleep Well

I’ve often wonder how the spouse can just jump into bed and sleeps immediately and mostly sleep well.  I’ve always thought that only multi-millionaires sleep well because what have they got to worry about right?  But I’m sure they are able to sleep well because they are people who give back to the society and are as nonchalant as the spouse when they are home and relaxing.  As for myself, I need a good body pillow to be able to sleep well, so I’m always on a look out for body pillow deals  and get some for the entire family.  I go everywhere with my body pillow even when I’m traveling and or need to go away for the weekend.  I don’t need a pillow for the head but a body pillow is a must.  I loved my body pillow so much that I can sleep without the spouse but not without my body pillow.

Which makes me come back to how multi-millionaires sleep?  do they sleep with body pillows too?  or what makes them sleep so well at night. I’m sure that they buy the most expensive and comfortable bed and pillows to sleep on but I’m sure they do worry about their work and businesses as well.  We are not rich but we do live comfortably, we are no multi-millionaires but to some people we do pretty well, and if you ask me if i sleep well at night, or how do i sleep well at night, I have to say, my body pillow does the trick for me.

Khoo Teck Puat

Khoo Teck Puat was well known for the Goodwood Park Hotel in Singapore, The Standard Chartered Bank as well as the Goodwood Group in London.  Born in 1917 and an estimated wealth of $4.3billion when he passed away. Mr Khoo started his career with the OCBC bank as a bank clerk but quickly got promoted and even became the Chairman for one of the most important government department in Singapore.  He was the Chairman of Central Provident Fund.   As history has it, Mr Khoo left OCBC Bank because of not keeping up with trend of other banks – and not expanding fast enough.  Khoo had 14 kids and of course, the most publicly known one is Eric Khoo the film maker.  Khoo died in 2004 and his children sold most of his majority shares to Temasek Holdings.
